Iranians prepares for Mother’s Day celebrations
Pars Today — Iranians, coinciding with the birth of Lady Fatimah Zahra (SA), honor the high status of women and mothers through the most extensive cultural, religious, and social programs.
In Iran, “Women’s Day” and “Mother’s Day” are celebrated on the birthday of Lady Fatimah Zahra (SA). Pars Today reported that this occasion symbolizes women’s dignity, the high status of mothers, and the emotional and spiritual bonds within families. In Iranian culture, this day is not merely a religious celebration but has evolved into a wide-ranging national and social ceremony, encompassing homes, cities, mosques, cultural centers, and sports facilities, beautifully showcasing the importance of women in Iranian society.
Within families, people honor mothers more than ever by visiting them, giving gifts, showing appreciation to elderly women, and holding intimate gatherings. Schools and universities also reinforce this celebration among the younger generation through meetings, competitions, recognition of active women, and educational workshops. As a result, during these days, the atmosphere in cities is filled with “love, respect, and tribute to women and mothers.”
Alongside families, “mosques and religious sites” also play an important role in this occasion. In many neighborhoods, young people participate in decorating, lighting, preparing spaces, and organizing cultural and religious programs in mosques days in advance, creating a lively and spiritual atmosphere. This enthusiasm is not limited to Iran this year but has extended to Iraq as well. In the city of Najaf, the magnificent courtyard of Lady Fatimah Zahra (SA) at the shrine of Imam Ali (AS) has been decorated by caretakers and community groups, and a large celebration is planned to coincide with Mother’s Day. This participation reflects the “cultural and religious bond between the peoples of Iran and Iraq” in honoring the status of mothers.
