Pars Today – Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations sent a letter to the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General, describing recent threats by the U.S. President against Iran as a clear violation of the UN Charterand calling for their explicit condemnation.

According to Pars Today, on Tuesday, December 30, Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, condemned in a letter to the UN Security Council and Secretary-General the recent threats by U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran, describing them as “reckless threats.” He stated that explicit threats of force constitute a clear and serious violation of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and called on the Council to condemn them decisively and explicitly.

In the letter, Iravani further emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran unequivocally rejects these reckless threats and reaffirms its inherent and inalienable right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter against any armed attack or aggressive act. He stressed that Iran will exercise this right decisively and proportionately if its sovereignty, territorial integrity, people, or vital national interests are threatened by further acts of aggression.

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the Security Council, and particularly its responsible members, to decisively and explicitly condemn the U.S. threats of force against Iran as a clear and serious violation of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Iran urges the United States to immediately fulfill its obligations under the Charter and international law, to end all threats or use of force, and to carry out its responsibilities as a permanent member of the Security Council in a manner consistent with the purposes and principles of the United Nations. Iran further stressed that the Council must act decisively and without double standards to prevent further escalation resulting from the continued impunity and blatant disregard for international law by one of its permanent members and its regional proxy, the Israeli regime.

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations stressed that inaction on this matter would not only further undermine international peace and security but also seriously damage the credibility, authority, and legitimacy of the Security Council itself, which holds the primary responsibility for maintaining global peace and security. He emphasized that the prohibition of threats or use of force constitutes a universal obligation to the entire international community, and any violation cannot be ignored or justified, as such breaches inevitably cause serious and lasting harm to the international legal order upon which the United Nations was founded.
