Maariv: Israeli soldiers’ combat capacity severely depleted
Pars Today – The Zionist newspaper Maariv has acknowledged a sharp decline in the combat capabilities of Israeli soldiers.
Quoting Israeli army officers and political sources, Maariv reported that military pressure on Hamas in the Gaza Strip has proven ineffective, and that frontline soldiers have become severely exhausted, with their combat strength significantly eroded.
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the paper quoted a reserve Israeli army officer saying: “Military efforts have yielded no results, and pressure in Gaza will not bring about any change. Hamas, through guerrilla warfare that may last for years, has inflicted a heavy toll on the Israeli army.”
The newspaper also noted ongoing disagreements between Israel’s political and military leadership over the future of the war in Gaza. It reported that Eyal Zamir, the Chief of the General Staff, has been requesting a high-level meeting to present plans regarding the continuation of the war in Gaza.
However, Maariv stated that prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been avoiding such meetings and is obstructing the presentation and approval of strategic plans concerning Gaza.
The Israeli military has been waging war on the Gaza Strip for nearly two years, committing acts widely condemned as genocide. During this period, thousands of Palestinian civilians have been martyred, wounded, or gone missing. Due to the ongoing blockade of Gaza, widespread famine and hunger have taken hold in the region.
Human rights organizations emphasize that Israeli regime is using starvation and siege as a weapon against the Palestinian population in Gaza. These crimes and the resulting famine have triggered widespread international outrage and condemnation.
Despite nearly two years of war, the Israeli army has failed to achieve its declared goals of destroying the Hamas movement and retrieving its captives from Gaza.
Numerous Israeli military and political officials, analysts, and security experts have warned about the heavy toll and extreme attrition suffered by the Israeli military, including rising suicide rates among soldiers, and have called for an end to the war.
