More than half of British voters want their country to leave the European Union (EU), a new poll has found, less than two weeks before the matter is put up for vote this month.

The survey, released by the Independent on Friday, found that the “Leave” camp has managed to open up a 10-point lead over the rival “Remain” campaign, leading them 55 percent to 45 percent.

This marks the biggest lead the Brexit supporters have enjoyed since the British daily started its polling a year ago.

The poll also shows that the Remain camp has shrunk four percentage points since the last poll in April.

According to the Independent, the survey’s findings hint at the Leave movement’s growing momentum in the run-up to the June 23 referendum.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron and most of his cabinet members have been outspoken in opposing the Brexit option, while key figures inside the ruling Conservative Party have been promoting the EU exit.

Cameron says leaving the EU poses an economic risk to the country and can undermine Britain’s security.

This is while, former Mayor of London Boris Johnson claims that leaving the bloc will pave the way for the creation of nearly 300,000 new jobs.
