Analyst: Biden's ‘presidency has no legitimacy by any standard of democracy’

An American political commentator said that serious politicians on the world stage have come to realize that Joe Biden's “presidency has no legitimacy by any standard of democracy,” following the permanent US ruling elite’s meddling in elections.

Following Tuesday’s midterm elections, it appears the Democrats would control the Senate, as they have for the past two years, with 50 of its 100 seats, since Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a tie-breaking vote.

 Republicans remained close to winning the House of Representatives as officials continued counting ballots.

It could take several days or more before the outcome of enough House races is known to determine which party will control the 435-seat chamber. As of Sunday, Republicans had won 211 seats, with 218 needed for a majority, ahead of the Democrats with 205.

However, the pro-Democratic US media is reporting the election result as if Biden’s party has scored a massive success in the election. For example, Reuters reported that the election results are a major victory for President Joe Biden and it extinguished hopes of the "red wave" that Republicans had expected leading into the midterm elections.

US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer described it as a "victory and vindication" for Democrats and their agenda.

New York-based journalist Don DeBar told Press TV on Sunday that the “only person who really benefits from this situation is Chuck Schumer - he gets to keep his job as majority leader for two more years.”

The mainstream US media outlets are saying that Republicans did not perform well in the election, and Democrats staved off an anticipated "red wave" of Republican gains in midterm elections. 

Debar said the media is doing “damage control.”

The US midterm elections come as Americans are grappling with sky-high inflation and living costs, with 43 percent of people saying their family’s financial situation is worse than two years ago.

Biden had said he believed Democrats would hold on to the Senate but it would be "tough" to retain the House and his life may become "more difficult."

A Republican-controlled House would be able to block bills addressing Democratic priorities. Republicans could also initiate a showdown over the nation's debt ceiling, and could launch potentially politically damaging investigations into Biden's administration and family.

Biden said the late Saturday outcome made him look forward to the remainder of his term in office.
