Pars Today – Australia and New Zealand described the Israeli regime’s insulting treatment of activists from the Sumoud flotilla as unacceptable and summoned the regime’s ambassadors.
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement early Thursday, referring to the released footage showing the humiliating arrest of Sumoud flotilla activists: “The images I saw were shocking and unacceptable.”
She added: “We condemn the actions of Israeli minister Ben Gvir, whom Australia has sanctioned, as well as the humiliating treatment by Tel Aviv authorities toward the detainees.”
The Australian foreign minister stated that her country had summoned the Israeli ambassador over the matter.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters also instructed his ministry to summon the Israeli ambassador and directly convey his “serious concerns” regarding the incident.
The Global Sumoud Flotilla announced on Tuesday that the Israeli regime had seized all 50 ships carrying activists and humanitarian aid intended for Palestinians. The flotilla included 428 activists from 44 countries and had departed from Marmaris, Turkey. Eleven of those detained are Australian citizens, while three are from New Zealand.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israeli regime’s minister of internal security, released a humiliating video showing the detained Sumoud activists with their hands tied and forced to kneel.
Spain, Ireland, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Canada, South Korea, Cyprus, Qatar, Turkey, Austria, and Switzerland are among the countries that strongly condemned the action.
In addition to condemning the incident, Australia, New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, Canada, Belgium, and Italy also summoned the ambassadors of the Israeli regime.
