Today, we make a simple comparison between the amounts earmarked to dispel poverty in Africa, and the costs of the US presidential election campaigns.

Central and West Africa are among the poorest regions in the world. These regions grapple with civil wars, droughts, and abysmal poverty. There are sixteen countries in West Africa. The wealthiest of these West African countries holds the 122nd spot among 185 countries in relation to welfare.

Meanwhile, Chad and Cameroon, which are situated in Central Africa, hold the 154th and 149 spots among world countries in regards to state of welfare.

The children of these African regions are among the most disadvantaged children in the world. The global body, UNICEF, has been founded to support children’s rights, and to assist them in meeting their primary needs, while also fulfilling their potentials.

In the year 2015, a budget standing at roughly $973.2 million was earmarked for these regions. This is while; the costs of US presidential hopefuls’ election campaigns up to now have stood at $1.5 billion.
