Brandt’s Hedgehog

Kerman Province’s steppe deserts are the habitat of the Brandt’s Hedgehog.
The Brandt’s Hedgehog is smaller than its European counterpart. Between the thorns of its forehead there is a naked spot which divides the head in two parts.
The Brandt’s Hedgehog has soft hair beneath the mass of its long and sharp thorns. There are muscles at the sides of these animals which enable them to coil up in times of danger to safeguard the face and stomach as vulnerable parts. When they fall from a height the thorns of these hedgehogs dampen the impact as a soft pillow.
