Iran has condemned a terrorist bomb attack in the Lebanese capital Beirut, which left a number of people injured, saying the bombing was meant to undermine peace and security in the country.

According to Press TV, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari reaffirmed Iran’s support for the stability and security of Lebanon as well as efforts made by the Lebanese government and nation to confront terrorism.

He further called on all political and religious groups in Lebanon to exercise vigilance and work to promote national peace in order to thwart the plots of terrorists and their clandestine supporters.

On Sunday evening, a bomb went off in Beirut outside the headquarters of the Lebanese Blom Bank, inflicting heavy material damage on the area.

The attack, which occurred in the upmarket Verdun area in the center of the Lebanese capital, left two people slightly injured.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the blast was caused by a two-kilogram bomb placed in a bag by the back wall of the bank office.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Lebanon’s Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk said the attack had nothing to do with the Takfiri Daesh terrorists.
