Iran pummels Japan to win 2023 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup

Iran defeated Japan 6-0 on Sunday to win the 2023 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup.

According to Tasnim news agency, Iran claimed the title for the third time.

Ali Mirshekari (two goals), Movahed Mohammadpour, Moslem Mesigar and Mohammad Ali Mokhtari, all scored a single goal for Iran. The Japanese player Kosuke Matsuda scored an own goal.

Earlier in the day, Oman beat the UAE 4-2 to finish in the third place.

The win saw Iran draw level with Japan on three titles each, with both teams now casting their eyes on preparing for the 2023 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in UAE in November.

Moslem Mesigar was selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2023 on Sunday.

Mesigar was instrumental throughout the campaign. He scored six goals as well as his compatriot Ali Mirshekari in the competitions.

Born in Iran’s southern port city of Bushehr, the 39-year-old forward plays for Daryanavardan Bushehr Beach Soccer Club.
