Iraqi FM, Iranian MP discuss regional developments

Head of Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commitee, Ala'eddin Boroujerdi has discussed regional developments and bilateral ties with Iraqi Foreign Minister Bashar Ja'fari in Baghdad on Friday.

According to IRNA, in the meeting, Boroujerdi called relations between the two countries 'strategic and important' and underlined necessity to strengthen the economic relations.

Regarding his recent visits to Syria and Lebanon and their outcomes, Boroujerdi described the upcoming meeting of the Syrian government and the opposition in Astana as an 'important' step for a diplomatic solution.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister Ja'fari called bilateral relations between Iran and Iraq 'growing', while referring to the outcomes of recent visit of Turkey's prime minister and Jordanian prime minister to Baghdad and said Iraqi government has always been supporting the Syrian government in the Arab League and the international circles.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation, led by Boroujerdi, has traveled to Iraq at the official invitation of the Iraqi parliament to attend the Baghdad Dialogue Conference and the Future of Post-Daesh Iraq, which is to be held in Baghdad on January 14.

Boroujerdi is due to meet with Iraqi President, Fuad Masum, Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, Parliament Speaker, Salim al-Jabouri, Vice-President, Nouri al-Maliki and Chairman of Iraq National Coalition, Ammar al-Hakim, on the sidelines of the Conference.

He also submitted the invitation letter of Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani to Iraq Foreign Minister Bashar al-Ja'fari to attend Palestine International Conference in Tehran.
