Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi played down the recent statement issued by the EU foreign policy chief in support of the 2015 nuclear deal after the US withdrawal, and said only action shows the European bloc's firm determination to continue cooperation with Tehran.

"If the European companies do not show their presence in Iran or do not act upon their undertakings and contracts that they have signed after the nuclear deal, slogans, statements and even official documents will have no value," Boroujerdi told reporters in Tehran on Tuesday and in reaction to the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogerini's statement in support of the Iran deal.

He said that merely practical measures are important to Iran because even the nuclear deal which was an official document was easily breached and discarded by the US.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington would no longer remain part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and promised to re-impose the highest level of economic sanctions against Iran in response to Tehran's development of its nuclear program.
