The Syrian army forces have advanced against terrorists around a strategic gas filed located close to the ancient city of Palmyra in Homs Province.

An unidentified military source told Syria’s official SANA news agency on Tuesday that an army unit, in cooperation with the popular defense groups, wrested control over the al-Sawan hill to the east of the al-Shaer gas field.

The Syrian air force also launched aerial assaults on the countryside of Palmyra and demolished vehicles belonging to the ISIL terrorist group in the vicinity of the gas field, the source went on to say.

Meanwhile, an army unit killed two militant leaders operating within the ranks of Ahrar al-Sham and al-Nusra Front terrorist groups in the northern countryside of Homs.

Elsewhere in Day al-Zawr Province, the Syrian jets targeted gatherings and heavily-fortified positions of the ISIL terrorists in the al-Sina’a neighborhood and to the west of the Dayr al-Zawr airport, according to the military source.

The sorties left a number of extremists dead and destroyed their mortar launchers, artillery and vehicles, the source added.

On Monday, Syria’s state TV reported that the government forces recaptured the national hospital of Day al-Zawr from ISIL.

“The Syrian army along with supporting forces moved quickly towards the areas where terrorist gangs had encroached. We dealt with them and killed them,” an unidentified Syrian field officer said.
