Iran senior MP reaffirms political solution to Iraq's problems

Head of the Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, renewed Tehran's support for a political solution to Iraq's problems.

"Iran supports opportunities for negotiations to settle problems in Iraq," Boroujerdi said on Sunday, addressing a conference titled 'Baghdad Dialogue Conference and Future of Post-ISIL Iraq'.

The senior Iranian legislature, meantime, voiced Iran's readiness to share parliamentary experiences with Iraq.

The two-day 'Baghdad Dialogue Conference and Future of Post-ISIL Iraq' kicked off on Saturday with speeches by Iraqi prime minister, president and parliament speaker.

Elsewhere, the Iranian senior MP and Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari in a meeting in Baghdad discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.

During the meeting in the Iraqi capital, Boroujerdi and al-Jafari underlined the need for political solution to the regional crises, specially the situations in Iraq and Syria.

The senior Iranian lawmaker also emphasized efforts to boost bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The Iraqi foreign minister, for his part, said Tehran and Baghdad are on the right track of broadening their mutual cooperation.
