A top commander of ISIL Takfiri terrorist group has been killed in an airstrike in the northern Iraqi Province of Nineveh.

Shobaib Abu Majd al-Kanani, the Saudi-born commander, was killed along with eight other ISIL commanders in an airstrike late on Saturday, Iraq's Alsumaria news website reported.

Also on Saturday, seven ISIL elements were killed and 12 others injured in airstrikes in the northern province of Kirkuk.

Some 45 ISIL terrorists were killed by Iraqi security forces in the northern part of the city of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar Province, on the same day.

According to reports, Iraqi troops foiled an ISIL attack in the city and destroyed seven car bombs there. They also released over 70 Iraqi civilians from ISIL captivity. In another Sunday development, the terror group executed a number of children and women in the eastern part of Ramadi.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since ISIL launched an offensive in the country in June 2014, and took control of portions of Iraqi territory.

The terrorists have been committing vicious crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.
